Greek Festival at St. George’s Downey 2009
Have you ever been to a Greek Festival? This was the second one for me. The first time was a huge event at the Pomona Fair Grounds some time in the 70s. I had a great time. I even remember dancing. The traditional style of “line dancing” is quite fun to learn, and with so many people dancing one hardly notices a mis step. I was really tempted to get up and dance, but…I’ll leave that for my visit to George’s Greek Cafe in Long Beach. This is my first blog, so I haven’t figured out how to add a hyperlink, yet. I finally firgured it out. Yeah!! They have two restaurants, one on Pine and one on 2nd Street.

- This group of people love to attend all sorts of fabulous festivals. They go to dance. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm.

- The fragrance of the lamb, chicken and pork that were cooking on the barbeques filled the air for blocks around St. George’s Church.

Traditional drinks were served

- If you have a sweet tooth, there’s plenty of desserts to choose from. I tried the traditional Loukoumades. These are donuts covered with honey, cinnamon and nuts. Click the link for the history of this tasty treat and the recipe.
