Avila Beach with Dad
Of all the people that I have taken pictures with in my lifetime, I’d have to say that my dad is my favorite. He has the “eye” and the patience. I will always remember all of our adventures, from early mornings in downtown LA to our rainy trip to up-state NY to photograph the black swans and Fall colors in the beautiful old cemeteries. Dad and I had a great time years ago, just as we did last week. We decided to take a drive up to Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo. The weather was beautiful and the company was fantastic, as usual. Dad and I never run out of conversation. We had lunch at the Farm House Restaurant, and then drove around. There’s a fantastic pier that’s full of “ocean” excitement. A boat had just returned from Mexico chock full of salmon, and Yellow Fin. They wasted no time cutting them up into restaurant-style steaks. Just a few feet away awaited a van ready to take away the remains…”one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” The day had its adventures…next time we need to remember to get gas in Santa Maria before heading across Hwy 166, and I was grateful for the generosity of a man who drove one of the water trucks which was part of the fire-fighting effort. He just happened to have five gallons of gas. It was a sad site to watch the flames from the fire up on the mountain in the Los Padres National Forest. There’s an uncanny beauty in the sun setting behind the smoke-filled sky at the end of the day. Well, Dad, until our next adventure…

Hi Sarah,
I was thinking of you the other day, and wondering how you were doing. Time for lunch?
