Just My Luck

I love my substitute teaching job at the Adult School where I work even more than I thought I would.  Ever since my classes got the axe due to budget cuts, I have been enjoying teaching subjects I’m not an expert in, but am qualified to sub in.  It is challenging, rewarding and a learning experience for me.  Unfortunately for the afternoon Medical Assisting class, today, they had to learn all about esophageal cancer.  There’s nothing like sharing from the heart and experience to help students learn.  I’m glad they were studying the gastrointestinal chapter.

The second two hours is lab time.  Students must practice sticking each other, taking blood, practice with needles…oooohhhh, it gives me the eebee geebees just thinking about it.  They all get stuck by a needle several times per class.

To keep my mind off my phobia, I asked to take their pictures.  They were kind enough to oblige.  I’ll be very happy to back in ESL tomorrow morning, but I sure had a lot of fun with them.  They are all eager students, and will be great in the medical field.
