Hwy 99

While traveling north and south on Hwy 99 yesterday and today, I was counting on finding something interesting to shoot.  Often I see something, but I either don’t stop because I’m on a time crunch or moving at 70 mph with only the shoulder as a place to park.  But, today I took my chances.  Coming to a screeching halt with big rigs whizzing past me, I was ecstatic to see more than 150 Canadian Geese flying overhead.  I’ve been watching and taking pictures of these beauties most of the winter at El Dorado Park nearly 100 miles south of this location.  I felt like I was saying good-bye to new friends moving away for a season.  They were in formation when they first caught my attention, but soon spread out as they continued at their high altitude after having flown over the Grapevine at 4,000 ft.  Just as I fired off a few shots, they were almost too far away to see.  I’m just happy I was able to see this huge flock as the headed exactly north on their route back home.  Until next year.  Happy flying.  You may have to click on the picture in order to see the birds.
